KARLA VAN EMAN
Karla is the co-owner/broker of American Way Realty. She has been a full-time REALTOR® since 1976. She started American Way Realty in 2001 and it has consistently been a top-producing office in the Greater Mankato area.
Karla is a Graduate of the Real Estate Institute and has also achieved the designations of Certified Residential Specialist and Accredited Buyers Representative. Karla is active with the Board of Realtors® and proudly has the distinction of being the first woman to be the President of the local Board of Realtors®. She started her career with the Century 21 system where for 14 consecutive years she received the top-producing award as a Centurian as well as being inducted in the International Hall of Fame. She has served on the local Realtors® Board of Directors and various committees, chairing many of them. For the last several years, Karla has been the top-producing real estate agent in the entire greater Mankato area.
A native of St. James, Minnesota, Karla has lived in Mankato since 1968 with the exception of two years that she lived in Okinawa, Japan. Karla graduated with cum laude honors from Mankato State University and taught elementary school prior to becoming a Realtor.
Karla is the proud parent of two children, Mike and Angie VanEman-Riley, both are licensed Realtors® with American Way Realty.
In her free time, Karla enjoys traveling and biking the beautiful bike trails of southern Minnesota.

Meet Cheryl Krengel: Your Mankato Real Estate Agent
As a co-owner of a local family farming operation and a degree in accounting from Rasmussen Business College the combination of experience and education opened the door to a successful transition into my real estate career starting in 1997.
I was hired by a local real estate developer/contractor. Starting out as administrative assistant of the general construction company, within one year I was promoted to Vice President and was in charge of hiring contractors, working with lenders for construction loans, and site development. Eventually this led into the design and architectural phase and overall project management of multi-family, single family residences and commercial projects, to include, banks, strip malls, casinos, and restaurants. In 2004 I became a licensed Realtor and Broker and placed my license with American Way Realty.

Leveraging my experience as a successful business owner, and running a large general construction company, I am known for outstanding client service, 24/7 availability, high tech marketing techniques, personal touches, and as a skilled negotiator with my clients best interests at heart, I believe strongly that it is not only my duty to represent my clients with the best of my ability, but also to educate them throughout every step of the process armed with top notch information and market insights, so that my clients make the best decisions possible. In My Free Time:
I love to spend time on the lake with family, play and coach softball which I sponsor and for three years in a row American Way Realty is the #1 co-ed team for Adult Mankato softball leagues. My husband Harold and I live on Lake Jefferson and share six children ranging in age from 21-29, we are also blessed with three grandchildren Tucker, Bryndle and Jace. We are also members of Hosanna Lutheran Church in Mankato. Harold is a senior crop advisor for a local coop, we also raise black angus beef cattle on a farm in St Peter.

Although he is the newest agent to the American Way Realty team he knows his stuff, is dedicated to his clients, and is a great resource for investment properties as he personally owns several rental properties. He also comes from a family with ties to the real estate industry. Zac is reliable, smart, hardworking, creative and knowledgeable in every detail of your real estate transaction. He takes pride in his communication with every client from the first phone call all the way to close. Zac is Mankato born and raised, graduate of East High School, and Minnesota State University, Mankato.
Where I’ve come from: Growing up, I always had a passion for learning and helping people. From the time that I was 15 years old I have held jobs in Sales and Customer Service. Doing everything from being a receptionist for a veterinarian office at 15, to a Recruiting Executive, to working at a non-profit, to selling radio advertising, to being a Sales Executive, to being a Call Center manager, to teaching Intro to Health at MSU, and waitressing to put myself through college and grad school…you name it, I’ve done it. Not to give my age away too much but that is almost 35 years of Customer Service and Sales experience. For me, it’s in my blood and it’s what I pride myself on.
I was always searching for what felt right…even getting my Masters Degree in Community Health. In 2014, everything changed. I found real estate. Without a doubt, real estate is my calling and true passion. Everything I have done in the past brought me to where I am today. Each day I get to educate and help clients start new and exciting chapters in their lives. I know I’ve found my passion when I am literally shocked every day that I actually get to do this for a living. Real estate is like breathing to me.
Business model: Honesty and ethics have always been paramount to me. Building long term relationships is always my goal and I’m fortunate that my clients generally end up being personal friends. I tell each client when I first meet them that I will tell them the good, the bad and the ugly as I see things. I want them to have the full picture, whether buying or selling. I am not out for a sale, just for a sale. My goal in each and every transaction is to be there for my clients and educate them, find the house that’s right for them, regardless how long it takes. If they are selling, I work my tail off to get them the best price in the least amount of time. I work for my clients as though I was working my family and they often feel like family to me at the end of the process.
More about me: I love a challenge!!! I’ve jumped out of a perfectly good air plane…twice, I’ve completed a marathon, two half-marathons and other distance runs as well as the very muddy “Warrior Dash”. I’ve lobbied on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., I rode my Road King to Sturgis 1½ times (long story), I am in “Who’s Who Among American College Students”…just to name a few fun things. I have two crazy cats at home and a wonderful boyfriend, each of which keep me on my toes!!! I still love to run and be active and get out on the bike and explore. And did I mention, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE real estate and helping people?!!!

Sally Comfort joined the American Way Realty team in May 2016. Born and raised right here in Mankato and a graduate of Minnesota State University, Mankato with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Marketing and Human Resource Management. Sally works with all of the agents at American Way to ensure all transactions run smoothly from listing to closing. She dedicates her time to accurate file preparation, property description write-ups, MLS data entry, following up with all necessary parties throughout the buying and selling process, and pays strict attention to detail to ensure success. Sally lives in Mankato with her husband and two dogs, enjoys spending time with family and enjoying all the wonderful amenities Mankato has to offer.
Laura Keough joined the American Way Realty team fall of 2016. Laura brings with her six years of real estate experience in Mankato as well as in Las Vegas as the Director of Relocation for a large real estate company which has given her insight into every facet of the industry arming her with the knowledge and tools to best serve the needs of our clients and the Team. During those years Laura oversaw home sale/purchases, supplier relations, contract negotiations, relationship management and led a relocation team who was responsible for 2,000+ relocations per year. Prior to real estate, Laura spent 5 years working as Marketing Project Manager with one of the largest publishing firms in Minnetonka, MN. In doing so she developed an expertise in conceptualizing, developing, writing, and graphic design which allows us to offer in-house marketing and advertising for each of our clients. She also handles our promotions, social media, and website content. Honesty and integrity always drives her success. Laura’s greatest cheerleader? Her family. Laura has been blessed with many mentors in her life starting with loving parents who taught her early on the importance of hard work and perseverance. Laura grew up in rural Waterville on Reeds Lake where she fell in love with the great outdoors.
